Each year, the largest event has
been our celebration of International Women’s Day. GTWNC has brought together up
to 300 women annually for the past nine years. The International Women’s Day
program is an opportunity to hear from women who have initiated
projects to speak about what motivated them, how they have overcome
obstacles and what has sustained them in their work. GTWNC has honored the
women and girls of the Friendship Club ,
Women of Worth and many more women’s organizations. Each year reflects a different theme,
different keynote speakers who offer inspiration, and wonderful musicians, dancers
and singers.
On this special 10th
Anniversary year, the doors of the Grass Valley Veteran’s Hall will open on
Friday, March 9 at 5 p.m., for you to enjoy music by harpist Lisa Stine and
violinist Nancy Hill, eat a pre-ordered supper from Christopher’s Old World
Deli and Catering,
and to connect with one another and organizations and projects that serve women
throughout Nevada County.
Then the program begins promptly at 6:45 pm, with the
opening ceremony and award-winning soul and gospel singer Sista Monica. Marilyn Nyborg
will speak and introduce Sera Beak,
a Harvard scholar in comparative religions who the New York Times calls one of the new role models in the
next generation of spiritual activists. Sera callsfor breaking rules and smashing
stigmas in order to wake up and ignite the deepest part of our divine selves.
As part of GTWNC’s ongoing collaboration and support
of See Jane Do and Passion into Action, Elisa Parker will be reporting live
from the Women of the World Summit
and the U.N.’s Commission on the Status of Women
from New York City.
Women are invited to a follow-up Circle Creation meeting on
April 16th, from 6:45 p.m. to 9 p.m at the Madelyn Helling Library
in Nevada City to propose a topic, project or personal need around which ongoing circles can
be created.
