Experiencing Joy, a compilation of photographs, observations, and reminders, to stimulate what we already know, but sometimes forget, about bringing joy back to our lives.
1.What is your passion or purpose you are being called to bring into action right now?
Life is a mixed bag of sweet and savory feelings and experiences, it is too easy to become bogged down with negativity – it’s in our face. We are bombarded with it in the media, books, and movies.
I feel compelled to be of service, to share joy, to share appreciation of the wonders of the earth, right here, right now. I can make a difference in one person’s day, and then perhaps she or he will do the same. I know it is a good thing.
2. What were the motivating factors or defining moments that inspired you to get involved and share your passion?
As a mother of young children, I knew attitude makes a difference. As a mature student, I knew that expressive arts and movement makes a difference, and I witnessed this first hand when co-facilitating a workshop with abused women. Dis-ease of body and mind can be altered, or overcome, by activating appreciation, gratitude and joy. Witnessing how positive energy and attitude is contagious made me desire to do what I can to spread the word.
I have had several years’ experience working with cancer patients, and I have noticed that an uplifting attitude, a smile, and chance to laugh, makes a difference in their day.
3. What is your mantra or favorite quote you refer to when you seek inspiration or hope and why?
Every day in every way I get better and better…has been around for years, with various people listed as author.
Keep your face to the sunshine and you cannot see the shadows…Helen Keller
4. Tell us about a moment recently when you were standing in your full power and purpose?
In the midst of a morning splashed with doubt, worry, and fear, I decided to do yard work to escape the weight of the day. Cutting dead branches from a nearby bush, I exclaimed to the Powers that Be: I remove all dead branches from my life. I release all that no longer serves me. In the very act of speaking out these words with power and purpose, I released all morning angst, and the day became rich with beauty, appreciation, and joy.
5. Why is the work you are doing so important for everyday women?
Everyday women are natural caregivers. We are concerned. We are empathetic. We feel the pain and struggle of ourselves and others too easily. We hold these feelings close to our heart. As we remember to reclaim the joy we so innately know, we heal ourselves. In
healing ourselves we help to heal others. This is a time when so much is out of balance. Reclaiming and sharing Joy is vital!
6. Why is it so important for women to participate in an event like the Passion into Action Conference?
Women need to connect with women to recognize how we mirror each other, to recognize our strengths, to see that our weaknesses can be re-evaluated. Women reveal to women what cannot be shared with men. For centuries past, women have gathered together to grow and bond and heal, to support, and nurture and comfort. This is a time for re-birthing a new way of being. This is a time to regain our inherent feminine strength and share it with others.
If one of us has something another can use, than we share our gifts. This is the way it used to be. This is the way to return to now.
7. What are you hoping will be the biggest take-aways for women both at the Passion into Action Conference and your workshop?
The biggest lesson for each of us is to recognize we are not alone, that we share our feelings and fears with others. As such, the biggest take away is to experience laughter and joy, connection to others, and to share the many windows and doors that are open to new possibilities.
8. What is your message to women around the world?
We, the women around the world, are vibrant, wise, and wonderful. We are important. We are of value. We are beautiful. We are the givers of life.
